White House: U.S. military will not enter Ukraine, supports direct diplomatic negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
On August 20, local time on the 19th, U.S. White House Press Secretary Levitt stated that U.S. troops will not be deployed to Ukraine, but assistance can be provided in coordination and security assurance. Trump has instructed the National Security team to coordinate with Europe.
Levitt stated that Trump proposed a solution for NATO to purchase American weapons. Levitt also mentioned that Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky have expressed their willingness to sit down for negotiations, and Trump hopes for direct diplomacy between Russia and Ukraine. Currently, arrangements are being made for a meeting between Zelensky and Putin.
